What’s the difference between painted, anodized, and mill finish aluminum sheet?
All three start from the same aluminum coil; the difference is what happens to the surface.
- Prepainted (painted) aluminum gets a hard, abrasion-resistant paint system that still flexes for forming and fabricating. Wieland-Wrisco is a national distributor of painted aluminum sheet, including Fluropon 70% PVDF finishes for superior exterior durability, color consistency, and resistance to pollutants.
- Anodized aluminum goes through a two-step continuous coil anodizing process (not batch anodizing), which gives a consistent color from edge to edge. It won’t chip, peel, or flake, and it’s more abrasion and corrosion resistant than painted finishes.
- Mill finish aluminum ships as it comes off the mill, with no applied finish. It’s one of Wieland-Wrisco’s top sellers because it costs less to produce and is ideal for fabrication and custom paint finishing down the line, whether you’re building signage, trim, or a custom-painted end product.
